Immunity in Today’s World – How to be Powerful from Inside!

A strong immune system is one of the many gifts of living a healthy and balanced life.

“I tell people, when they drop food on the floor, please pick it up and eat it,” said Dr Meg Lemon a dermatologist in Denver who treats people with allergies and autoimmune disorders. I know that sounds distasteful but its food for thought! She adds, “Our immune system can become disrupted if it doesn’t have regular interactions with the natural world. Our immune system needs a job.” “We evolved over millions of years to have our immune systems under constant assault. Now they don’t have anything to do.” Over the many years we have minimized the regular interaction not just with parasites but even with friendly bacteria and parasites that helped to teach and hone the immune system — that “trained” it.

Now that we are already here in the 21st century and have managed to weaken our immune system, let us look at some ways we can still boost our immunity in a powerful way. According to Harvard Medical School, every part of your body, including your immune system, functions better when protected from environmental triggers and supported by healthy-living strategies such as these:

  • Eat a diet high in fruits and vegetables.
  • Exercise regularly.
  • A glass of wine a day may not be bad. Not more though!
  • Get adequate sleep.
  • Take steps to avoid infection, such as washing your hands frequently and cooking meats thoroughly.
  • Try to minimize stress

I am certain that none of these are hard to follow techniques! Some of these like including fruits and vegetables in our diet , adequate sleep, regular exercise which can be cycling or playing outdoors are probably the simple daily routine we were asked to follow at home when we were younger. As we aged and gained more intelligence, these easy immune boosting methods were replaced by self-imposed priorities such as work and stress. If we take a little effort to listen to the real needs of our body and pour love, it will reciprocate with health and happiness.

About the Author

I am Sreebala, a peaceful looking (request not to reconfirm this with my family members) home maker who is an avid learner of life and its interesting ways! Enjoys my tryst with words; my passion for acting, my never dying love for singing, these days more so when no one is listening, studying spiritual courses and understanding my journey on this planet .

So this journey that I just mentioned has been a bit of a roller coaster types. I am on an adventure ride with autoimmune condition Lupus (SLE) which brings along many others conditions with it as if it was looking for an avenue to expose its unpopular relatives. Nevertheless, I enjoy the unpredictability of my life. I learned to develop a pace (read: pause) of my own physically and emotionally. Now you know why I am part of a wellness blog!

I live in Dubai with my husband and son. They eat the food (read: whatever) I make. So they should be good people. I think I forgot to mention that I love cookie…err .. cooking!

‘Life’s better when you are laughing’. Cheers!
